How to back up to Google Drive in WhatsApp?

In order to use Google Drive backup, you will need the following requirements in place:

  • A Google account activated on your phone.
  • Google Play services need to be installed on your smartphone. This is used to update Google apps.
  • You need to have enough free space on your smartphone to create the backup.
  • Last you need a strong and stable Internet connection.

Set up Google Drive backups

  1. Open your WhatsApp messenger.
  2. Tap the More options dots icon. Tap on Settings > Chats > Chat backup > Back up to Google Drive.
  3. Then select a backup frequency other than Never.
  4. Now you have to select the Google account you’d like to back up your chat history to.
  5. If you don’t have a Google account connected to your WhatsApp, tap Add account. Then enter your login credentials such as Email Id.
  6. Then finally tap the Back up over option and choose the network you want to use for chat backups.

Manually back up to Google Drive

WhatsApp also allows you to choose a manual back up option. You can manually back up your WhatsApp chats to Google Drive. To do so just follow these simple steps-

  1. Open your WhatsApp messenger.
  2. Tap the More options dots icon > Settings > Chats > Chat backup > BACK UP.

Change the account you want to use for backups

  1. Open your WhatsApp messenger.
  2. Tap the More options dots icon > Settings > Chats > Chat backup > Account.
  3. Finally, select a new Google account where you would like your chats to be backed up.

Note: You will lose access to any backups previously saved in the account if you change your Google account.

Change the type of network you want to use for backups

  1. Open your WhatsApp on your smartphone.
  2. Tap the More options dots icon > Settings > Chats > Chat backup > Back up over.
  3. Then just select the type of network you want to use for your chat backup.
